Michael ''Mick'' Joseph Smith
Michael ''Mick'' Joseph Smith, 62, of Reading, PA, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 while returning from a golfing trip in Myrtle Beach.
He was born in Berks County, PA, to the late Jack and Arlene Smith.
Mick was a graduate of Holy Name High School in Reading, PA. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking. He was employed as a union painter and construction worker for years and was the paint shop supervisor at Morgan Corp. for a number of years. He also, at one time, owned an auto body shop in Reading. He was last employed at Willow Hollow Golf Course and the Sokols Club as a bartender.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Bitler Smith; his son, Matthew Smith and his wife, Ashley of Exeter Township; his daughters, Amy Bortz and her husband, Steve of Heidelberg Township, Jillian Lynch and her husband, Adam of Exeter Township; his brothers, Timothy Smith, Steve Smith and his wife, Allison of Reading, and Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Michelle of North Carolina; 4 grandchildren, Capri, Bradley, Benjamin, Addison, and expecting another grandson in December.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 19 at 2:00 PM at the Sokols Social Hall at 411 Crestmont Street, Millmont, PA. Family will receive friends at that time and celebrate Mick's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
Arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
